Ode To Joy Drawing By Javier Hernandez-Miyares
Cyber-Palimpsest by Javier Hernandez-Miyares

Since the featured song on this post is a ballad about innocence; i posted a picture of my first live performance in 1975, with my first band called Frontier. in 1975 i was an innocent abroad. 20 years later i was still an innocent abroad when i wrote and recorded this song for my daughter Matilda. Today still as an innocent abroad, i dedicate this song to my fellow travellers; you know who you are.

this is a very poor recording of a great song written by Donald Johnson and Fee Fi Fo Fum. The performance took place at C.B.G.B’s in 1985, and it was recorded through the house mixing board. even though you can’t hear the bass, and the guitar is too low, we present to you now the only extant recording of this precious song.

gonna sing, gonna sing my song
my song of celebration
cause when the pied piper comes again
he’s going take us to the same location
where all the little children, found the tree of knowledge
in the garden
garden of temptation
you see there was this tree in the forest
and it fell down one day
there was no one there to see it
but they heard it just the same
and they all knew
they would never be innocent again
and they were safe
safe as milk
safe as their mother’s milk
they were safe
safe as milk
overworked and underpaid
but safe
safe as milk
suddenly there came a flood
and it washed away the cities
every man, woman and child
they were caught sleeping
and every man and his opinion
was washed into the sea
drowned in the sea
then we crawled out of the water
and we climbed up in the trees
and when we looked at each other
we saw that we were monkeys
and every trace we left behind
became a part of history
history
and we were safe
safe as milk
safe as our mothers milk
we were safe
safe as milk
overworked and underpaid
but safe
safe as milk
so we rebuilt our cities
and our institutions
and since nothing was heaven sent
the branches of the government
were the only things that grew
on our tree of history
history
gonna sing gonna sing my song
my song of celebration
cause when the pied piper comes again
i’m going to take him to the same location
where all the little children
found the tree of knowledge
in the garden
garden of temptation
we were as safe as milk…

Poem written as a clue to the meaning of “safe as milk”
We were seeking God
In the beginning
but it was too perfect
to perfect to be seen
so we remade god in our own image
as a mortal to be seen
deified
(It)
it that feels birth pangs
and dies in childbirth
and leaves us orphans
longing for it
imagining it
It
always coming and leaving
like our breath
as in our sexual embrace
as we see
It

I’ve been following a rhythm
It’s been playing in my head
Trying to find some happiness
Sometime before i’m dead

Our Musical Archaeology Department recently unearthed this recording of a band named “Occult Science” performing a compositon, which our records indicate was written by the Zu Band. The Zu Band was formed in 1978: Bill Laswell and Fred Maher were members. We believe that Javier Hernandez-Miyares, a member of Occult Science, saw them perform at c.b.g.b.’s in 1979 and brought this song to his band. Through carbon dating we have determined that this live recording occurred sometime between 1979 and 1980. Since this is a pre-digital age recording, be prepared for the strange primordial humming which accompanies the track. We are not sure if the strange sounds were intentional, or if they are artifacts created by audio detritus which accumulated over time. We do know that Javier played electric guitar; Alberto Miyares played bass;George Mellina played drums; Thomas Shaw played synths, and Donald Johnson played keys.
