Tumbao By Tania Leon Performed By Jade Simmons
The contribution to universal culture by Cubans of African descent is substantial. Afro-Cuban music has significantly influenced the development of Blues, Jazz, and Rhythm and Blues.
Tania Leon in the composition published here, creates a “toccata” piece built on the identifiable tumbao style riffing. What is most wonderful about this composition is how she uses the familiar elements of the tumbao, to build a complex harmonic portrait of the rhythm of the heat.

Compromise And Promiscuity (Meta Meth Lions) Installation By Alex Itin And Javier Hernandez-Miyares At The Mid-Manhattan Library
Compromise And Promiscuity (Meta Meth Lions)
Patience and Fortitude before they became Meth addicts
Some people have interpreted this representation of the NYPL lions, as a metaphor for the state of The New York Public Library at this moment. In my last post, i published the artist statement regarding this work, and i stand by the ideas expressed within it. Furthermore, since the installation intends to provoke discussion, i also welcome all interpretations submitted by the public. Alex and i thank you for looking.
Fifth Avenue Windows (Alex Itin, Javier Hernandez-Miyares Collabo)
Promiscuity And Compromise Library Lions At Mid-Manhattan Fifth Avenue.
The iconic NYPL lions were originally nicknamed Astor and Lenox in honor of James Lenox, the great bibliophile, and John Jacob Astor the renowned philanthropist.
During the depression Fiorello La Guardia re-christened them as Patience and Fortitude in tribute to the people of New York that were enduring a difficult economy.
Alex Itin and i now present a grotesque caricature of these beloved icons, which we name Promiscuity and Compromise. It is a riff on Wilde’s Dorian Gray, and in our depiction these lions represent the degradation of idealism in our society.
The installation consists of two painted panels in each window. The background figure of a lion is painted on canvas, and the front panel, which is painted on plexiglass contains stylized writing and like a palimpsest, further disarticulates the image. The Fifth Avenue pane of glass that covers the window is a third layer, which reflects the ephemeral commotion always present in front of the Mid-Manhattan Library.

Jackboot Summer By Fee Fi Fo Fum For Where The Pieces Fall (Tropical Blues Pop)

Song about the first intifada and how the msm covers issues of life and death. this is a grossly ironic song about the gross indulgence of infotainment. since i wrote and recorded this song in 1989, this situation has gotten worse.
Jackboot Summer was recorded at Paramount Studio in Hollywood California, and engineered by Ralph Miller.
John Easter Mills : Drums and Percussion
Alberto Hernandez-Miyares : Bass
Donald Johnson : Keyboards and Vox
Javier Hernandez-Miyares : Guitars and Lead Vox
End The Day With You (Sineparade Archival Recording)
Self Portrait By JHM
This is one of the first songs that Steven Pacia and i recorded as Sineparade. All the tracks were done in my studio apartment in Sunnyside Queens in 2002. It has never been published before, because i considered it a failure; my attempt to make the arrangement and mix “hyper-dimensional” overwhelmed my ability to craft a coherent sonic landscape.
nevertheless, the exquisite corpse of the song is worth grieving, and that is why i present it.
